The Actor's Success! About

What I love about Robin is his authentic, caring soul. What I get from his coaching is the freedom to explore what might be holding me back from being the person that I want to be. My sessions with Robin are all about me. He gives support when I’m doing well, and doesn’t hold back in asking the tough questions when I’ve strayed from my path. I can count on Robin, with every conversation, to be curious and genuine in his desire to help me move forward.

About The Actor's Success

I started The Actor's Success because after 20+ years in the business, I got fed up seeing actors getting chewed up and spit out by the industry. Yes, it can be a brutal career choice. You face extreme competition, little job security, and few possibilities for a stable family life.

And none of these are good enough reasons to keep you from pursuing an acting career!

I know plenty of actors who are making it in the acting business, doing what they love to do. They are no different than you--they don't have special talents or powers, they didn't start out knowing the "right people," (although they do now), and they weren't any luckier than you are. They simply believed in themselves, persistently chased their dreams, and eventually succeeded.

The Actor's Success is designed with one purpose in mind: to help you beat the odds of the acting business and create the life and career you've been dreaming about.

About Robin

Over the last 20 years I have worked as an actor, director, writer, and teacher, in Oregon, Colorado, and Kentucky.  In 1994 I received a Master of Fine Arts in Acting from the University of Louisville.

Since then, I have turned to coaching. I am a Certified Professional Co-Active Coach (CPCC) by the Coaches Training Institute (CTI), the oldest International Coach Federation accredited coach training organization in the world.  I am also a graduate of CTI's amazing Leadership program.

But for all this rewarding work and study, I'm rarely satisfied. Don't get me wrong - I love my life, but it saddens me to watch actors feel they're getting chewed up and spit out by the industry.

We live in a culture in which the arts are underfunded, underutilized, and underappreciated. And the paradox is that despite all this, the arts continue to thrive.

It's because artists have a fire, a passion for what they do like no one else. Perhaps you're one of them.

I have a vision of a world where actors choose to be professional actors with the ease and freedom that other people choose corporate jobs.

To bring that vision to life, I see it as my job to change the face of the acting industry, to empower actors to do the work they love and feel called to do. It's my mission, my purpose, and what gives me fuel every day. It's what The Actor's Success is founded on.

I absolutely believe you can have the life and career you dream about.

Yes, it will take courage, faith, patience, persitence, and time. Like all things worthwhile it will take work.

And if you're like most actors, you have some self-limiting messages. Here are a few that I used to let get the best of me - notice if any of them are familiar to you:

  • You're not good enough—you don't have the talent
  • The acting business is too competitive
  • Only 5% of working actors are working—what makes you think you can beat those odds?
  • The economy stinks—stick with the safe job

You can choose to submit to those messages, or you can choose courage and faith. Henry Ford said, "If you think you can do a thing or think you can't do a thing, you're right."

I'm fascinated by human potential. I frequently tell my three-year-old daughter that she can be anyone she wants to be and do anything she wants to do. She doesn't quite understand it yet, but that's OK. It will be as true when she does as it is now.

Family

And it's true for my clients. Watching my clients create their own success is something I'm so amazed by I sometimes wonder if it's real.
